styling: fonts, images, etc.

Today in class, we had failures, followed by a few accomplishments.

Trying to figure out why our special font: IM Fell (Italics) was not working was quite frustrating. However, after some research, it was discovered that the font-family tag in our CSS needed to be worded differently in order for it to talk to the tag in our XHTML. And our font appeared!

Then, we crossed another barrier when we tried denoting the other font, IM Fell (Regular), with the drop cap at the beginning of each story. This was not successful. The H1 head (IM Fell Italics) and the dropcap (IM Fell Regular) kept appearing as the same style, even when we have specific tags for each, and sheets that validate. At the end of the day, we still haven't figured out why this is the case... but we're taking a break and going back to it later.

We were very happy once we put the cover image on the eBook - after we added the title and fixed the pixels in InDesign - because it looks officially and conveys the simple yet spooky look we are going for.

After some failed attempts at getting the images centered correctly at the beginning of each story, we succeeded. Each image for the eBook was selected specifically based on the scary-element.

Our next biggest hurdle will be figuring out our font issue, and hopefully finding a solution that does not have us sacrificing our artistic vision for the eBook. Also, we need another editing round to trim some of the spacing and breaks between paragraphs, quotes, poems, etc. that take place in each individual short story.

Once these things are finalized, I think we will be very pleased with our eBook product.
